Join us at Lasithi Plateau Tour & Ceramic Workshop to explore the rich history and the hidden gems of Crete. Visit the Monastery of Kera Kardiotissa, the village of Psychro and Tzermiado.

Our Lasithi Plateau Tour & Ceramic Workshop is more than just a tour; it’s a deep dive into Cretan Tradition

Our first stop is the ancient monastery of Kera Kardiotissa, nestled in a beautiful location and run by a community of dedicated nuns. Here, visitors can marvel at the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, along with a plethora of frescoes and other icons dating back to the fourteenth century.

The history of the monastery is closely linked to a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary known as Panagia Kardiotissa. It was given the name “Kardiotissa” because it depicts the Virgin holding Christ close to her heart. According to tradition, the icon was painted by the monk Lazarus during the period of Iconoclasm. During the Venetian rule, the icon was stolen and taken to Rome, where it remains to this day. A copy dating from 1735 is kept at the monastery and is also considered miraculous. There are also folk traditions claiming that the icon would “return on its own” to the monastery, even after being taken away by conquerors.

Our next destination is the stunning Lassithi Plateau, a captivating and lush plain nestled in the eastern region of Crete. Immersed in the breathtaking presence of towering mountains, this elevated plateau captivates visitors with its awe-inspiring scenery, iconic windmills, and thriving farmland. Discover the delightful villages, abundant orchards, and immerse yourself in the tranquil and serene ambiance of this one-of-a-kind destination. Immerse yourself in the captivating history and awe-inspiring beauty of the Lassithi Plateau, a haven for nature enthusiasts and those in search of serenity.

Next, we head to Psychro village, a charming and scenic village nestled in the beautiful mountains of Crete. One of the must-see attractions is the renowned Dikteon Cave, believed to be the mythical birthplace of Zeus in Greek folklore. The Dikteon Cave is closely associated with ancient Greek mythology and is traditionally considered the birthplace of Zeus, the king of the gods.

According to myth, Rhea hid the newborn Zeus in this cave to protect him from his father, Cronus, who devoured his children to prevent them from overthrowing him. The cave later became an important place of worship during the Minoan period, where offerings and rituals were dedicated to Zeus. Archaeological findings, including pottery, figurines, and altars, indicate that it was a significant religious site in antiquity. Today, the Dikteon Cave remains one of Crete’s most famous natural and cultural landmarks, attracting visitors for both its impressive formations and its deep connection to Greek mythology.

Our next stop is Psychro Village, it is renowned for its exquisite handmade ceramics, and the workshop is sure to leave a lasting impression. The village provides breathtaking vistas of the majestic mountains and is a beloved spot for enthusiastic hikers and nature lovers. Visitors have the opportunity to wander through the picturesque streets, indulge in the local tavernas, and delve into the captivating history and mythology of the region. Psychro village is a destination that cannot be missed for those who want to truly immerse themselves in the natural beauty and cultural significance of Crete.

In our Lasithi Plateau Tour & Ceramic Workshop you will be amazed by the natural beauty, history,  traditional architecture, and breathtaking views of the final destination, the capital village on the plateau.
